About the Little RES Q

Our shelter is located in Pefferlaw, Ontario and is open by appointment only. The RES Q is a 1200sq. ft facility that can support over 300 turtles and several dozen other types of reptiles and is structured in such a way that allows us to also board reptiles for owners looking for a temporary home for their beloved friend.

About Us

The Little RES Q has been operating since 2008. In this time, we have managed to do the following with the help of our supporters and volunteers:

  • Match over 2000 turtles with forever families
  • Develop a workable plan for all future turtles who cannot find homes
  • Partner with local businesses to create RESQ Adoption hubs across Ontario
  • Accept surrenders and work with local shelters that cannot support turtles and other reptiles
  • Actively help Ontario's Invasive Species Plan in partnership with the University of Toronto
  • Provide for over 300 reptiles when working at maximum capacity
  • Support foster reptiles and their foster families across the GTA
  • Educate about the risks and rewards of reptiles and their care
  • Rally together to speak up for reptiles in need
  • Developed and constructed a 40 acre secured outdoor sanctuary for the overflow of unwanted pet turtles needing a space to live

"The Little RES Q is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and relocation of pet turtles and other small reptiles in Southern Ontario in an attempt to keep them from being released into the wild.

We provide a better option for those who, for one reason or another, cannot take care of their reptiles anymore. Many small reptiles, especially turtles, get purchased as pets for a young family member without the family fully understanding the costs in both material and time needed for proper care of the animals.

And sadly, all too often these poor creatures suffer from neglect even when the owner has the best of intentions."
